I found it interesting that Jesus came as the son of a carpenter. Born a son of a carpenter and a carpenter himself who worked with wood, what has Jesus been actually building ? He builds the Church, “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18)
Meanwhile, as recorded in Jeremiah 10: 3-4, there were men who built idols out of wood,
“for the customs of the peoples are vanity.
A tree from the forest is cut down
and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman.
They decorate it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so that it cannot move.”
Same material, namely, wood, yet two very different outcomes. What does it tell us?
The Lord has given each of us different building materials. They can come in a form of spiritual gifts, natural talents, or even financial blessings. But do we use them to build up one another or do we turn them into idolatry? “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Matthew 6:24). May we be absolute for the Lord as Jesus Christ the Head builds His church.
